JPEG replaces transparent pixels with white. Every export is a new static image and omits the source file's EXIF, GPS, animation, and other metadata.

A concrete resize example

A 4032 × 3024 photo is 4:3. Choosing the centered 16:9 preset keeps the full width and crops it to 4032 × 2268, removing 378 pixels from both the top and bottom. Set the output to 1600 × 900 for a standard 16:9 image. Numeric X, Y, width, and height fields let you replace the preset with an exact pixel rectangle.

Choose a format, not just an extension

This tool decodes the source pixels and creates a new file; it does not merely rename .png to .jpg. PNG is a good choice for transparency, diagrams, and lossless edges. JPEG is usually smaller for photographs but has no transparency, so transparent pixels become white. WebP can reduce photo or graphic size when the browser supports WebP export.

What stays private

Selection, decoding, cropping, resizing, preview generation, and download all happen with browser APIs in this tab. The page does not upload the selected file. Closing or resetting the tool releases the temporary browser URLs it created. As with any sensitive local file, use a trusted device and review the preview before sharing the result.

Limits and export behavior

Inputs are limited to 20 MB and 16 decoded megapixels; outputs are also capped at 16 megapixels and 8192 pixels per side to avoid excessive browser memory use. Export creates one static image, so animation is not preserved. EXIF orientation tags, camera details, GPS data, embedded thumbnails, and other source metadata are not copied into the new file. Color and compression can differ slightly because the browser performs the decode and encode.
